A full smart home in a new-build flat in Sabadell
A brand-new flat and a clear brief: all the home automation possible. No building work, making the most of what it already came with (the Verisure alarm, the LG heat pump and the motorised blinds) and getting everything to work together.
The project
What we did, system by system
Each piece on its own was already on the market. What changes life in the flat is that they talk to each other.
Lights that switch on by themselves
The flat's 18 light points, spread over 12 rooms, are all dimmable.
- When you walk into a room they switch on if light is needed, and switch off by themselves once it's empty.
- In night mode they come on softer and in a warmer tone, so they don't dazzle.
- Scenes from the panel, the phone or by voice with Alexa.
- When the last person leaves home, any lights left on are switched off.
The LG heat pump, without thinking about it
The flat is heated and cooled by a ducted LG aerothermal heat pump, which also provides the hot water. Now the smart home runs it:
- It follows its schedules, with a different temperature for the night.
- When the home empties, after 15 minutes it drops to the away temperature and, if nobody comes back, switches off after 3 hours.
- On the way back, or when someone is less than 5 km from home, it returns to the comfort temperature.
- If a window is left open for 3 minutes with the climate control running, it warns you and switches off; once it's closed, it goes back to how it was.
- The hot water is controlled from the same system.
Blinds that follow the sun
The 4 blinds were already motorised. Now they decide for themselves:
- They adjust to the sun according to each window's façade, the temperature and the time of year: shade in summer and sun in winter, and in winter they close at dusk to keep the heat in.
- When it rains, they move to the position chosen for rain.
- If someone moves them by hand, they respect it for 3 hours.
- They come down with 'good night' and go up with 'good morning'.
The Verisure alarm they already had, integrated
The client already had a Verisure contract. There was no need to change it: we integrated it with the rest of the home, together with its smart lock.
- It arms itself when the last person leaves and, if a window has been left open, it tells you.
- It disarms when someone from the household arrives and opens the door.
- On arrival, their phone asks 'Shall I open the door?' and the lock opens with a single tap. It never opens by itself: that tap is needed.
- When you say good night, it tells you if the door hasn't been locked.
A panel with a plan of their home
On the wall, a screen with a 3D plan of their flat, made to measure. Every light, blind, door and the climate control sit in their place and are worked by touching them; rooms with the light on show up lit.
- At the top, the time, the indoor and outdoor temperature and the weather forecast.
- At the bottom, a bar with everything to hand: lights, blinds, lock, music, the shopping list, the alarm, energy, settings and night mode.
Padel, on the panel and on the TV
The client follows the professional padel tour, so their home does too:
- The current tournament with live scores, the draws, the season calendar and the rankings, on the panel.
- They pick their favourite players and get a heads-up before they play, with a button to put it on the TV.
- If they're playing that day, it's mentioned in the good-morning summary.
The shopping list, when it matters
The list fills up by voice with Alexa or from the panel, and shows up where it's useful:
- On arriving at the supermarket, what's missing pops up on their phone.
- Everyone else gets a message that they're at the shop, in case they want to add something.
Good night, good morning and cinema mode
With Alexa, the whole home responds to three phrases:
- 'Alexa, good night': switches off what always goes off at night, lowers the blinds and flags what's left: doors, windows, the lock or a light left on.
- In the morning, a good-morning summary with the weather, the diary and, when there's a match, padel; and the blinds go up.
- 'Alexa, cinema mode': the TV switches on and the lights, blinds and climate control get ready.
Living with it
An ordinary day at home
- 1
In the morning
Alexa says good morning with the weather and the diary, and the blinds go up.
- 2
Leaving
The last person leaves: the alarm arms itself, the lights go off and the climate control switches to away.
- 3
At the supermarket
What's missing from the list pops up on the phone.
- 4
Coming home
The climate control is already on, the phone asks 'Shall I open the door?' and, on the way in, the alarm disarms.
- 5
Going to bed
'Alexa, good night': the home checks itself and flags anything left open.

Inside the home
What it runs on
Everything comes together in Home Assistant, on a small server inside the home: the LG heat pump, the Verisure alarm and lock, the lights, the blinds and the panel all talk to the same system, even though they're different brands. Alexa provides the voice.
That's why nothing the flat already had needed replacing: integration is what turns separate devices into a home that runs itself.
New flat? We build on what it already has
If you already have an alarm, a heat pump or motorised blinds, there's no need to replace them: we integrate them and get them working together. Tell us what you have and we'll tell you what can be done.
